Celebrating Vinitaly, a Great Italian Love Story

From the 8th to 11th of April, one of Italy’s most important and renowned exhibitions took place, Vinitaly. Unique tastings, concerts, meetings, guided tours and many other initiatives brought the most picturesque areas of the city to full bloom. It was a milestone year as Vinitaly celebrated its 50th edition in the enchanting city of Verona, the city that is also home to one of the greatest star-crossed love stories ever told. In some ways, Vinitaly is itself a great love story, a story of shared passion for all that is Italian wine and I Love Italian Food was part of this iconic occasion by hosting a special parallel event during Vinitaly called“Vinitaly and the City.”

I Love Italian Food, the international network and non-profit whose mission is to spread the passion for cooking and Italian food in the world, has a community of over 1 million users and a network of thousands of professionals in the sector made up of bloggers, chefs, restaurateurs, buyers and distributors. Its dedication and passion for Italian cuisine was once again reinforced on Saturday April 9 with “Vinitaly and the City” which also included a presentation by Future Food Institute co-founder, Sara Roversi and her team of Future Food Fellows. Sara presented an inspiring talk about the Seeds of Disruption Forecast map and importance of innovation as a collaborative effort and how our food traditions of today are successful innovations. The Future Food Fellows also provided valuable insights; Antonio Gagliardi spoke of the new frontiers of 3d printing in the world of food, Bea Jacoste spoke about food education, the role of food as a global language and the social impact of food and finally, Kelly Angela Lee discussed the exciting innovations in food services.

Following the presentation was a unique tasting provided by Gran Gusto’s Cosi Com’e line of quality tomato-based products. The audience was able to savour selected wines in combination with yellow and red Datterino tomatoes and Pizzutello tomatoes grown from Finagricola in the Piana del Sele in the southern Italian region of Campania, where each tomato plant is followed with care and passion, from sowing to harvesting by hand, guaranteeing a rich, unique and delicious food experience!

It was yet another successful year for Vinitaly and I Love Italian Food and the Future Food Institute are proud to have been a part of this iconic Italian tradition. Here’s to another 50 years, cin cin!
